Carolina Ballet Presents: The Ugly Duckling

I have always loved ballet but, I'll confess, the breathtaking movie "Black Swan" has rekindled my desire to go watch a ballet live again. While watching ballet at home on my couch in lounging pants is certainly cheap and convenient, nothing quite matches the experience of dressing up and being taken to a nice dinner before going to enjoy a ballet in person.

For those fortunate enough to live in Raleigh (or close by), I now present you with the perfect upcoming opportunity to do just that. (We'll even keep with the "transformation of water fowl" motif!)

Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling is coming to Raleigh's own Progress Energy Center downtown, running from February 17th to March 6th. It's being described as a “refreshingly humorous, poignant” reimagining, with principal choreography by Tony-nominated Guest Choreographer Lynne-Taylor Corbett, and music by Michael Moricz. A new ballet by Artistic Director Robert Weiss will be included in the programme.

As for setting, the programme will be performed in the exquisitely intimate Fletcher Opera Theatre (pictured above). This lovely little venue only seats 600, and the farthest balcony seat is no more than 70 feet away from the stage, ensuring a romantic proximity to the performance.

And, of course, as far as pricing goes, you should know by now that I won't send you anywhere to break the bank. Tickets run from only $25.00 to $65.00 and, with a venue this small, there is no such thing as "nosebleed" seats. Find more information on tickets and seats at TicketMaster.

Use the money you save on your tickets and treat yourself to a fabulous Italian dinner at 518 West before the show. And if you need a date, well, I know a certain lady blogger who would love to attend. : )
